Mentors have a lasting impact far beyond the induction year. As teacher-leaders, mentors provide a supportive, enriching, and positive experience for new teachers to the district. The Educational Leadership article, The Good Mentor, outlines qualities of being a good mentor.
A new teacher mentor should, when possible:
teach in the same school,
teach the same subject or grade level, and
meet other qualifications as determined by the District Steering Committee.
Mentor teachers are required to have:
have at least three complete years of teaching experience with a rating of Proficient or higher,
have completed a research-based mentor and induction training program.
